Haven't been here for a bit... gardening hasn't worked out great this winter. I'm hoping my spring/summer garden will go better. I do have a bunch of broccoli though. I went out of town for a couple days and I came back to find that some of my broccoli started flowering. Will it still be edible? I know lettuce and things like that get bitter when they bolt... does the same thing apply to broccoli? I cut off the heads and I'm hoping I can still serve some for dinner tomorrow...

I still eat it when it is that way. I dont think it changes the flavor at all. If you just give it a quick blanch and then serve so the flowers are still visible I think it even looks better. IMO Enjoy!

No reason not to eat it!! I went on vacation and a lot of mine went to flower- I ended up leaving a bunch of them because the honeybees worked them, right up till late fall. I agree with Food, it is kind of fun to have a few flowers with your veggies! Enjoy!

The broccoli was delicious. It looked wonderful and tasted great! My husband thought having a couple little flowers here and there was a nice touch :) .

I'm going to use this opportunity to promote one of my FAVORITE vegetables:

:) Flowering Bok Choy :)!

I like it when it begins to flower as well as when bok choy is tiny and tender. It gets so sweet!

(In between tiny and flowering, it's okay too :p.)
