Calla lillies in containers?

Went to the greenhouse this weekend...they have the most beautiful calla lilly. I would love to plant them in containers, has anyone tried it? According to my research, it can be done. Just wondering if anyone has experience....

I grew mine in containers last year. I forgot to take them in and the bulbs rotted over the winter so no calla lilies this year. I would leave them out in a containers... cut back the foliage before the first frost then take in the bulbs and store in a paper bag in a cool place like a pantry... then repot in the spring outside.

Around here, I've never seen them OUT of a container. I'd love to see a picture of what they look like in the ground, I've only ever seen the cut version for bouquets or potted lilies for church decorations etc.

I'll bet they look nice.

They can be grown in the ground (even in our zone 4)- but they need to be dug up and stored for the winter. I would love to plant them in the garden, but, um, I seem to be running out of room!!!! Haven't put anything in my big urns, so I thought maybe....

I have some in a pot inside a window and in a pot outside away from chickens. Inside ones are weak and thinleafed (not enough light).Outside shade one looks good and has "bloom". Both pots were left inside over winter in windows.Leaves died off, I forgot to water,noticed the pots and assumed dead, watered on a whim ( a yr. or more later), and they came back. My understanding is they can be outside yr round in Fla. or maybe S. Ga. but not above. Inside, no problem if you have some light, but the leaves die off in the wtr., regardless. Urns are fine, if you dig out bulbs in winter, or drag urns into a warm area then.

SO glad I read this thread. I wondered why last year's calla lillies didn't come up this year!
Now, I'll know to put my NEW ones in a pot and maybe they can be a winter indoor flower for me. Thanks!!
