I overwintered some plants in pots and thought they were hostas. I moved the pots into the shade and was about to plant them in a shady spot in the garden when I realized they were cannas. Can I just leave them in the pots all summer? Anyone have any growing tips? I don't have much experience with cannas. Thanks!

Cannas have to be dug up here for the winter, as they will rot in the ground. Last winter I just took the pots they were in inside the house, and they survived indoors. I'm hoping I can just keep them in the pots year 'round, outdoors in pots in the summer?

I've seen smaller cannas growing in pots. I see no reason why the larger ones couldn't be grown as well -- if the pot if big enough for the plant. I've seen some pretty big cannas.

There might be a problem with tipping the pot over or blowing the canna down, but I'm not a canna grower.

Thanks, Smart Red. I think I'll give it a try.

I've grown them in pots year round. But my winters are mild. Like Red said, make sure your pot is big enough.

They are still looking good in their pots. The foliage is beautiful!
