you can try it and put some fertilizer on but my first year here I got corn stalks and no corn. My field had not been planted in 25 years at least, we did plow it up but it was just poor all around. We didnt expect much that year. It takes a couple years, some good chicken poop and maybe a cover crop like buckwheat or clover to get a good corn crop. It doesnt have to be on a large scale, just what ever room you have.

cob but no kernels--no pollination; could be due to wind, bugs eating silks off or eating pollen, dry weather stopping silk production.

no ear (cob or anything)--physical injury early on to plant.

ear tips missing or one side not filled out well--lack of water.

leaves yellowing--nitrogen deprivation.

goose necking--strong winds due that, can be aggravated by rootworm larvae, planting too shallow.

Can go on any Ag website (Purdue, OSU, MSU, UI) and they have outstanding pictures of most deficiencies or bug problems.

i dont think there was any injury as they were direct sown. Ive grown sweet corn my whole life, this was just a case of lack of everything that first year.
