Getting anxious! :D

I have SO many seedlings they are taking over my house! lol

Ive read the last frost dates for my zone are February 28 to March 30. I looked at the monthly forcast and it doesnt show anything in the 30s for the rest of the month. Weve already had 2 snows this year (which we are lucky if we get 1!) so Im safe... Right?

If I plant and mulch think it will be ok?

Do you plant in raised beds? If so you could put a polytunnel frame on them and set it up about an hour before sunset or in the late afternoon and you could keep the heat in overnight if you're worried :)

Aw darn, well you could still make them little teepee polytunnels lol. It's become a necessity with our erratic spring weather here. Last year I covered about 15 newly planted blackberry bushes with a small polytunnel when I heard we were getting snow in I think it was April. I did the same with my tomatoes too.

You are never 'safe'. Even if they say last frost is March 30th, it can still happen after. My suggestion is wait until after OR you can plant now and just be ready to cover in emergency! :D

I'm planting my cool weather stuff now. Nothing else will go in the ground until April 15th.

I agree. My MIL wouldn't put her garden in HERE until Memorial Day weekend. OUR last frost is April 15th. I repeat--EVERYTHING is being sown indoors for me this year. I saw all of the starlings land on my big trees Saturday LOOKING for little seeds on the ground--EVIL BASTARDS!!!! :somad

I lived in Statesboro, GA for 4 years in the 90's, I planted 2 gardens. I was so excited because where I lived before we have to wait until almost Memorial Day. I planted my garden, March 15, it was supposed to be OK, then spent a ton of time covering plants when we had a cold spell the next week. It might have been just my dumb yankee luck but be prepared because anything can happen this early.

Sarah, you've got to do better than February 28th to March 30th ;) for a last frost date.

How about Athens -- does that city have about the same climate as your home?

The US Weather Service has the Athens Airport average day of last frost as March 24th.

Ya I knew it was march 24th..
Something inside me keeps wanting to find the earliest date possible though

I got silly and started my mammoth sunflowers way early and now they are about 4" tall and toppling over. I guess I could plant them and if they dont make it just use the other pack I bought..
