No those are small flowers. About the same color much smaller pedels. Thanks though.

No... wait.. I think I see something that I have all over my yard... I have no idea what it's called, but when you touch it, it throws seeds all over the place.

Well, I was inclined to agree with @seedcorn .

The pictures look like there are two different plants covering the soil surface.

Lamium purpureum (click) is what the flowering one looks like to me.

From the stems and leaves that I can see at the bottom of the photo in detail, that's what it looks like to me too (purple deadnettle). There's another that looks very similar to it, Henbit. Maybe that's what you were thinking of. Creeping Charlie is also resembles it a bit. See this link for differences between the 3.

Although it can spread out and take over in the spring, I find it pulls up easily and gives up as summer's heat wears on.
