I too am interested in having BPA free lids.

Well how can I state this? To get what you want.....start by requesting/demanding BPA free lids. Start with the manufactures and your seed companies. Tell the seed companies that you are unable to can because of your concerns. They can become allies in getting this changed.

Tell the manufactures that you will go elsewhere to buy the lids. After they get enough complaints, they will start manufacturing acceptable lids. If you dont ask you dont get.

Nothing JUST shows up on wish-list, you have to ASK FOR WHAT YOU WANT. Sitting on the sideline a wishin and a hopin gets you nowhere. You have to be at the table in order to play the game. :/

I just found this.

When I used to can years ago I had glass lids and rubber rings. It got harder and harder to find rubber rings. Once my boys grew up I didn't can much anymore. We moved into a house a couple of years ago that had a cold room full of old preserves. We dumped them and saved the jars but needed to my new lids. All I could find was the metal ones so am using those. I liked the glass ones better because you didn't have to replace them every year.

It's not like the food in canning jars actually touches the lid, except for briefly while it's actually in the canner...

Just sayin',

My thoughts exactly, Pat. I am not happy BPA even exists- but I am still sure the canning we are doing at home, is so much healthier than anything you can buy in the store. The food is not touching the lid at all, as it sits on the shelf....

I have heard that heat causes some type of reaction with the release of chemicals. :hu

Edited to add this:

Look, you have one of the world most amazing tools at your finger tips, and all you have to do is make sure you know who the authors are. I did a google search using the words -
heat and BPA chemicals

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=heat+and+BPA+chemicals&aq=o&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=

Come on guys, it takes a little time and effort but it should be worth it to keep you families safe. I just caution you to know who is giving you the information. GOOGLE THEM TOO!

Uh, Ladyhawke1, just because someone personally believes that, in the greater scheme of things, the risk of using canning lids lined with BPA is trivial and acceptable (given the inherent risks of EVERYTHING in this world) does NOT mean they haven't "taken a little time or effort" or don't "care to keep [their] families safe".

"Come on guys" indeed

Just sayin',

I am as calm as the Buddhist monk who said All things are relative until they happen to you.

This has all been going on for years and years right under everyones nose. Some of us had this information fifteen years ago because of our need to know. So when do you pay attention?

How do you try to inform people when they say things like.Oh, you have to die from something sometime. Or, oh, I dont believe that or that doesnt scare me. Try saying that to someone whos child is being treated for leukemia or cancer. I guess facts do not matter to some people.

For the rest, this exposure has gone on for a long time and no one was the wiser. Do you ever wonder where your breast cancer comes from, or that nice guy down the block that suddenly went berserk and killed his whole family?

Those who own the corporate media and most of the products that you buy, would have you believe that it is all your fault. It is in your genes, or shame on youit is your life style.and the nice guy who blew his family away.oh, he was just an accident waiting to happen.

There is no blame game here. For some, this information comes way too late. Our attention has been diverted by our everyday struggle for existence. We impart information as a way to stay alive and live better, not for just ourselves but for the communities that we live in. In the scheme of things, it pays to pay attention. :frow
