We are finishing up the steer from May, 2022.
DD hates that we named it, "Big Boy", but he was the biggest.
The beef that we picked up in March is "Frostbite."
You have given me some names for future frozen steer meat!
I didn't get to name one head of our cattle. The ladies in my life outnumber me and I'm cool with that ♥️.

Most of us here that name animals have things like Ribeye, Brisket, T-Bone, Sirloin, Rump roast... all the things you want out of the beef... and there are few with less complimentary names because they are PITA's..... We named the pigs Bacon and Hambone and Sassy for sausage.... and things like that.. or just Lard A$$.....

Romeo has grown.

Got my onion plants... $5.00 for bundles of 50 plants... and picked up the tomato plants at the nursery/greenhouse I like to go to.... the other day and they are in the 1/2 greenhouse that I ordered, that sits against the house on the deck.... handy to the back door and easy to run one of the "milkhouse heaters" out there for the next couple weeks for the chilly nights... I am paying $2.99 for a 4 pack of the different plants; so $.75 per plant... they are 6-10 inches high and look good... Yes, more expensive than starting my own but I get about 5-6 different varieties so that I can have different kinds.... and not too many of any one kind.... I also got a few peppers but have just started some also..... it will be a month before they go out in the garden... our last frost date AVERAGE is May15th.... but it still gets awfully chilly through Memorial Day... so I am not in a rush.
Guy plowed and tilled the garden again this year, once... it was earlier than I wanted really... and he said he will come back in a few days and do it again which will chop up all the newly growing grass seedlings coming up... then I will plant and mulch and be done... I don't get in a rush as early planted stuff is always ready when we are heavy in making hay... so waiting a bit works better than having everything coming ready in July.... it starts getting serious in August and we will have a lull in hay normally then... and later planted potatoes here seem to keep better... they are all sprouting and ready to go in as soon as it is reworked. I will direct seed beans and melons and cukes and all that stuff...

Yes romeo has really taken off and so far he's very well mannored. He mooed for the first time last week. I was beginning to think he had a broken moo. My hope is he continues to be calm but I'm also prepared if he becomes a jerk.

Glad you found some deal on seedlings. Good Lord, they are ridiculous at the farm store.

Just us two, so we have a side processed how we like it. My sons fight over quarters from the other side (they have to agree on how to process there side). But I don't let them fight too much 😂

Eldest DD (the "Chef",) has educated herself on all of the specialty cuts.
She tells me that we opted to not have filet minon in favor of the cut that makes a beef wellington--forgot, but YOU probably know.
We also went fat 80/20
Last night we had sirloin steaks from "Big Boy."
Glad your steer found his "moo!!"

romeo is a fully operational bull, that's why I got my eye on him. We brought him in to specifically breed the cow and two hefiers.

I am kinda new to jam making. The grape jelly I made last year didn't seem to gel so I labelled each one, "Refridgerate, Runny."
I was totally wrong. They only needed to set to gel up.
I've only had two jam/jelly failures. The first one I tried to reheat & add more pectin, but it still didn't set... so we used it as syrup instead. That was actually really good syrup, so when a batch of blackberry jelly didn't set, we just used it as syrup. It was really good! We were blessed in our moves on the West Coast to twice live near large blackberry patches, I wish there were wild blackberries growing in my area. :( Lots of wild plums here though, which compensates somewhat.

Almighty made a absolutely beautiful day today. I made my self a hamburger for lunch. Finished lunch and said I'm just gonna sit down in this lawn chair in the shade real quick.

Jack (my tom cat) I'm just gonna come lay in your lap real quick.

2 hours later

I wake up from accidental nap.

Please tell me, It's still 2023? 🤣

Had pizza and watched the passion of the Christ at church this evening. My wife and I seen it, when it first came out in theaters in 2004 with a few couples from our old church. It's hard to beleieve that was 19 years ago, but it was. My how time flies in earth under the firmament of heaven. Time is so short, like a wisp of wind.

Grafting update - still growing 👍 I pruned off most of the root stock growth so the root stock focuses on growing the grafts. Some are 3ft tall now.
