Tank made the right decision :) we have sandwich bread for a while now that won't spike our bood sugar 😋 One loaf will have to into the refrigerator so it won't mold, while we are eating the other loaf.

I put the 8 little fig starts in a feed tub. They are now easier to move around with a hand dolly. Tank and I are working on the tack room in the barn to overwinter them.

They are young and tender. So after the go dormant, I need a spot to place them that has incidental sun light through a window and be able to maintain a temperature between 30 to 40F. I can keep the tack room at that temperature with an electric milk house heater. Maintaing temperature range will even be easier if I partition off a smaller area with plastic sheeting.

Figs... yep figs.

I ordered some rooted fig plugs A couple.months ago. They are tender no doubt so I had to figure out something to overwinter them. I suppose it's a good thing I live in farm country, feed tubs are abundant. My neighbor brought these over for my wife over summer.

the temp dropped down into the high 20’s F Friday night, fig leaves got nipped. So i decided to go ahead and set them up for overwintering.

Here’s what I came up with in the tack room of the barn, using a couple feed tubs, 12 foot of heat cable and some sand . Hope it works out.

The heat cable is about 85 watts. It comes with a built in thermostat that cuts on at 30F and cuts off at 50F. This morning it was 22F outside just before daybreak. The tack room is unheated so is the barn and It was 28F in there at the same time this morning. But my inkbird said it was 37.5F inside the makeshift feed tub shelter. I'm going to get some insulation tomorrow and wrap the tubs and top. Hopefully that'll work until I can set the figs out after the last frost in spring.

Why is it I find myself doing crazy plant things?

Do I need a heated green house? I think I do, what do you think?

Why-- because you Can!!
Don't know if you Need a heated greenhouse, but you obviously Want one.
I still have the greenhouse kit that DD got me 18 months ago AND the two 12 ft landscape timbers AND the two 4 x 4', 6 ft long supports to put into the ground and secured to the structure to keep it from blowing away!!
BUT, where there is a Will, there is a Way. So, here's hoping...
