This spring we have done some downsizing and rearranging in the back. I will have less hens, so we built a smaller coop and pen (I built the pen, sweet husband built the coop).

The former chicken coop is now my tack room and I wanted to paint the inside before installing my saddle and other gear.
It's been bugging me that it hasn't been finished, so yesterday I just tossed my list of things for Saturdays chores, grabbed the paint and got-r-dun!

My friend thought I should leave the interior wood plain because it's old recycled redwood decking and looks like old barn wood.
But even though it's been washed and bleached it still has that faint chicken poo essence. I opted for a good coat of paint.

In the process-

I think it looks much better. This paint color is called Morning Canter Through The Mountain Mist.

Not really, I just made that up. I think it's really called Gray.

But I surprised myself with how quickly I got it painted. Just need to clean the window glass where I was a little careless with slopping it around. Next week I'll give the outside a fresh coat of red, put my bridle hangers up and move all my goodies in. :)

That's a lot of painting when putting on bare wood! I'm with your friend...I'd have left that wood interior and just used a garden sprayer to spray it down with pine sol or vinegar or something to take care of the smell. I love the look of natural wood in a shed.

Good job, though!! Should be a darling little tack room....was a darling coop! So, pics of the new coop?

Oh that old wood sucked the paint up! I washed it down with bleach, but it still was faintly pooey.
Or maybe that was just an olfactory memory.

I liked the old wood too, but the newer 2x4 framing didn't blend to me. I like the paint! It also covered some of the stains that didn't scrub out nice. Chickens can be so creative! I bet they were like-
'oh yeah this will really confuse her, haha!' I mean there was stuff in places that defied logic.

I replaced the handrails on the back steps and have been painting them the last few days. White, because the other rails were white.

It was a little odd because the deck is red. But, I didn't care to negotiate on the subject with DW and the new boards are fir and need some kind of paint.

Yes, I like natural wood and you would know that from my backyard. Still, I understand trying to make things match. The cedar siding on the greenhouse and chicken coop is also board and batten but I used just a few redwood 1 by 2's because I'd run out of room for 1 by 4's and didn't want to rip the cedar. Twenty years later, you can still see that there is a difference in the wood ;).

Probably, I should paint everything but it's a vicious cycle, Thistle'. Twenty years from now, the paint on your cute tack room will look like heck!

Steve ;)
