Great story! I am glad to hear that someone else has had a hen "crow".
That often happens in flocks with no rooster. The dominant hen takes on many characteristics of a rooster and takes his place as "boss" and fighting off predators.
There used to be an old country saying,"Whistling girls and crowing hens never come to very good ends." Old time farmers usually butchered a hen that began to crow because they would stop laying eggs when they,"went rooster". I have no idea what became of whistling girls.

Hmm...Jetta still lays. Her eggs are distinctive so they're easy to spot. She did stop crowing tho', maybe that's why?

You got me worried with the whistling girls Hoody, I frequently whistle ( very poorly ) when I'm gardening. But it's probably better than my version of singing.

Hoodat, I just love your old sayings! By the way, shouldn't you update your signature line? Aren't you know 81? Just checking. :)
