What can I tell you? It works for me!
My potatoes are planted in rows usually four rows each being 25 feet long. The rows are two feet centre to centre and each plant is one foot from centrer to centre. About one square foot of growing area per plant. Less than 100 seed potatoes. I expect about 3 to 6 pounds per plant. When at maturity it is desirable to have the space between the rows shaded by vegetation to inhibit moisture loss. I only hill once or at most twice.Gardening with Rabbits said:That is nice! Chieftain is the king of the six types that I grow. The largest tuber was two pounds, and it was not hollow in the center. The tubers are prolific and very large.
Thank you for the pictures. I can see I am cutting my potato seed too small. I have a friend and sent her the link to your pictures and she said they are cutting their seed too small too. I am not sure what would be good to plant in the space between the rows, bush beans?Durgan said:My potatoes are planted in rows usually four rows each being 25 feet long.
