Floating teeth is when a horse's molar teeth grow sharp edges through uneven ( favoring one side of the mouth vs. the other) chewing of grass and grains which may have sand/ soil on them causing wear on the tooth surface creating sharp edges. The sharp edges on the teeth cause injuries to the tongue and/ or cheeks which are painfull. So we use a metal device with leather straps that keeps the horse's mouth open ( some horses may object to this insertion at first, then calm down quickly ) , then use a steel file with a long handle to file down the sharp edges. This proceedure is not painful and has been done for centuries. I have my Dad's ( was a Vet. ) set stored in a box.Floating teeth? Isn't that what the water trough is for? Forgive this (born in a) city girl's ignorance, but what is floating a horse's teeth?
