Up at 4;00 AM this morning. On my second cup of coffee. Yesterday morning it was 18F, but before daylight it dropped down to 16F. Today it will be a high of 52F!! I’ll be able to turn the water back on at the meter. But I’ll still be hauling boiling water this morning to thaw out frozen buckets so the sheep can get a drink.

Finally the snow and ice disappeared, and we will have some mild days from today. Going to have my second coffee.

Today's treasure hunt - homemade sourdough Foccacia - much less waiting (for fermentation), much less energy (lower baking temperature and shorter baking time), much softer surface (I have no love for hard crust), and you can add whatever you like for toppings.

The texture comes from the very active wild yeast in the sourdough, and the charming peach color comes from beetroot juice, so adorable. It immediately becomes the star of my spring menu.

I recently learned a little about the meaning of the word "gnome :)." From children's literature, we all know about these earth creatures who may have some effects on what happens outdoors. But, the word also is a synonym for accepted sayings, like "gardens aren't made by sitting in the shade" ;).
It's true and why didn't I know this? Gnome is synonym for a shared knowledge, a maxim. The word comes directly from Greek gnome, "to know." We should pay closer attention to those garden gnomes.

:D I tried something yesterday AM. Instead of being confrontational about the neighbor shining headlights against our bedroom window at 4:30, maybe a change in her behavior will result from seeing the interior. I opened the curtains completely. DW and I were both up so I just closed the bedroom door. With some geometric luck, those headlights might have been reflected in the mirror on the closet door right back through the window ;).

The advantage we have is that so often we aren't in the bedroom at 4:30AM. Secondly, and with DW more likely to be the one there, DW likes pillows and has an extra one propped against the headboard. She never notices the headlights.

It didn't work. The neighbor backed into her driveway yesterday and shined those headlights across the road while warming the car again this morning.

you need to be a bit more millitant these days. a black and white large sign of someone giving the finger might apply the appropriate clue brick (stanley is its name)...

my gf of a time had her bedroom window facing a neighboring JW Church parking lot that had a big bright light on all night. she sent them a nice letter asking them if they could put on a blind or a motion timer but they didn't do anything so we ended up putting up a huge piece of plywood that she painted flowers on the side facing her window and left it blank and ugly on the back. i would have been tempted to put some sort of words on it like, "This ugly sign is your fault!" with hot pink and bright green zebra lightning stripes. yeah, that would have shown 'em. don't mess with me...

I was hoping that leaving for 2 hours almost every morning (& returning before leaving again for work) ..

. indicated that she was out searching for a new husband. I learned that some gyms are open 24 hours. Before learning that, I thought that maybe she was going out for breakfast. Neither reason is inappropriate and she could benefit from a choice ;). It didn't start until they had separated and that may have been in April or soon after. Still, he usually shows up on Sunday afternoons for a couple of hours.

Honestly, it was only this once that the lights awakened me, so I don't have much to complain about ... ;)

Wood is great bc it's natural BUT wood rots/dries out in about 5 years and that 5 years comes faster than you think.
I think if you can Afford what you like, Get it!
I understand the cedar is long lasting, btw.
I had wood before and the 5 years did come fast. lol
