Think I'd would only need my green crayon?


Drying a few Super Chili and pulled over a few Burgundy Bolitas beans. I'll try them together in a kitchen pot this winter. Hope those Burgundy Bolitas are good chili beans! They were fun and easy to grow.


Here is @ninnymary 's Red Orach one early morning. She knows I'm a fan of orach and sent me a packet of seed. I planted only a few seeds, late. Lots prettier than my Purple Orach but I should have both as a very early 2016 crop .

Steve, that orach looks fuchsia color! I was afraid that it was your purple one that you already had. Couldn't tell from the package if it was red or purple.

I think it might be fuchsia, Mary. Wouldn't you know!?

To compare, the other plants are really purple ... or, were. Even the "mother" plant has been pulled. She began scattering seeds about a week ago. The seed on your plants look fine - at least, the seed at the very top look mature enough if the weather decides to close down the gardening season.

There is something called Magenta Spreen which is in this family. Apparently, it is neither an orach nor a spinach. So... there is more to this rainbow .

Super Chilies would make good additions to ornamental beds.

Their pods are upright.

Fiery in appearance and heat ..!

I always forget about chili peppers for the flower bed. I had Christmas Lights chilies in there one year and got a lot of compliments on them. I bet a pop of red like that would be quite nice, especially on toward fall.

Are those burgundy bolitas a grow-out for Russ? Googling it returned some very random and odd results. "Bolita" appears to be a fashion term... Or maybe it is Lolita...

A Spanish word but Burgundy is in France ...

Marshall sent me the seed. I think there was a "grow this!" on the envelope. Half-runners and I put them between the Purple King and Jacob's Cattle thinking that they might be snap beans or maybe not. The Purple King Russ sent me are a bush snap bean.

Super Chilies are dh's new favorite pepper!
I grew them last year after reading about them on TEG ..

He dries them and makes a powder which he sprinkles on just about anything. I put in 24 plants this year to keep up with his habit. They do make a pretty plant and are still producing great. Have a big batch dried and awaiting the crusher ...



That Red Orach would be lovely in the ornamental bed!

@journey11 the Christmas light chillies did you harvest any?

They were very hot, hotter than my liking, but I gave a bunch to my neighbor who was quite happy to have them. I did save seed back on them though. They are cute, multicolor as the fruit mature.

ETA: I may have the name wrong, since I can't seem to find it online. But this is what they look like: Bolivian Rainbow Chili Peppers (but that doesn't strike me as it either).
