Sorry, don't remember the old phones. I can just tell you that the entire Chicago/suburban phone area had a "312" prefix. In the 1980's they started issuing other prefixes, but Chicago proper kept it.
Dunno how long this will last with the plethora of cell phones.
As an aside, a Brit mystery was solved bc somebody said their "Cell#" instead of their "Mobile#."
I am pretty happy withOUT most of the things on this list.
I Always wanted a machine that where I could correct my spelling/typing errors.
I always wanted to be able to take copies of paperwork from my phone.
I thoroughly enjoy cruise on my car, and electric windows and Sirius radio and a sunroof, and our one newer car that will slow you down when traveling in back of a slower one and stop you so you don't have an accident.
Even the small backup camera on the rear view mirror on my 2012 Avalon is helpful. The newer one is much bigger and much More helpful.
I love having multiple computers and multiple printers.
I love the Internet and scrolling to find things out.
It was a bitxx to look things up in an encyclopedia, which was current one month before printing and holds NO current resale value.
I am happy to able to have online penpals here, and niche nerdy groups where before you couldn't find somebody else with your hobbies in your general vicinity.

When I returned to the university in the 80's, there was a "word processor" for grad students to use in the department office –– one.

At home, I had my typewriter but employed a professional for all-important work. Then, it turned out that the proper paper was not used and it had to be redone ... my fault, not hers. Even then,
