SCORE!!!!!I buy lots of my tools and machines at auctions and yard sales. Here's a couple (out of many) examples.
I got my big grinder for $5 at an auction. It has a 2" shaft and weighs over 200lbs. It came with 3 extra wheels. New wheels cost over $100 each.
I got my welder for $25. The comparable model today cost $300

At auction, I overheard two dealers complaining about every paying retail for things. Didn't pity them at all, also not upset with their views.Ever since the Antique road show, auction prices have been sky high here. Everyone looking for that 1 item that will make them rich.
The local auctioneers around here don't do that. One got caught doing it several years ago and nobody would hire him after that.Yeah, but you have to be careful! Sometimes at auctions, they have "professional bidders ",people to drive up the prices.
