Just to consolidate things, here is another shot of the new veggie garden out back with the pea stone paths in place around the beds. That was completed last summer. Still need a fence to keep the chooks out!

I thought I'd ressurect this thread and show you all what's going on in the front yard now. Last fall a friend of mine who is a wizard with stone 'drew' the outline of my new herb garden in cobblestone. We used pea stone in the paths (same as what I used out back). I want a specific (and way too expensive for me right now) birdbath in the middle, it'll come, someday, maybe....because when I was in Tennessee I found a lovely cement pineapple that I thought was exactly what the center needed. Understated elegance is what I'm going for. I am going to elevate it a bit on a square block, I just set it in place to take this picture:

Here is a bad closeup of just the pineapple:

I still have to fix the lawn in the foreground, the raised beds took up more room than this garden did, so I've got some fixing to do. I'm going to plant some boxwoods in corners (maybe just on the inside corners, I'm still contemplating), germander along the outside edges, and lavender around the pineapple, I've already got small roses planted, one in each quadrant, who knows where it will go from there? I do want to keep in a bit more formal than my usual hodgepodge, I hope I can keep to the plan!

If I had your back it would be KILLING me!!! That looks like it was an 'understated' amount of work you've pulled off in the last year. I bet you are thrilled to see the snow melted so you could do all this.

The back yard of course is FABULOUS, I can't wait to see all the blooms and veggie going this summer. But that front yard is beyond elegant! It's gorgeous... superb and I am jealous to say the least. Your friend with the stone has mad talent.

A nice piece of limestone would be a lovely raiser for that pineapple, which I think it a great idea. I was hoping to do a little half circle similar to that in the front yard centered with a garden bench... you should send your friend down south for a few days :bouquet

Thank you, everyone. I'm fortunate to have a mother who is an herbalist and gardener extraordinaire, a friend who has a great eye with stone (he's expensive, but that eye is worth it!). He's really good, and far too busy, it took me months of pleading to get that done last fall!) I do have visions and thoughts, but I get lots of good input.

I'm having a problem coming up with a fence that works with the backyard garden. I love the curved entrance into the raised bed area and hate to infringe on it. For now we're going to just put up ugly but utilitarian green wire fence to keep the birds out. Hubby is going to install some sturdy corner posts and use smaller fenceposts between - something removable for when the real fence goes in. My other option is to fence across the backyard from the corner of the garage to the other side of the yard and keep the chooks back there, plenty of room for them to free range when we let them out (never when we're not home, too many critters that like to eat chicken!). I'm still thinking......:)

I've got five yards of 'super loam' from The Green Connection coming in a few minutes so I can finish filling the beds out back and have some for lawn fixing. It's mixed compost and loam, certified organic, wonderful stuff!

Oh my word, does this woman have problems!!
Ann, why on earth are you taking pictures of my yard and gardens and posting them on here like they are yours?!
This woman is truly delusional, she does not know a thing about gardening and I want my pineapple back!!

 Come and get it! :tongue

Natalie has a very nice yard, too, I can't wait to go over and see what she's done with it this spring, she was rearranging things last time I heard :)

Its getting there, finally coming all together. It will be nice once May comes and we can get everything in the ground and get things really going.
I am working on the garden shed, the goal is to use mostly salvaged materials and I got the coolest windows off of craigslist! They are 4 feet wide and 6 feet tall, arched and they have 20 panes of glass in them, lots of light! I got them for $15.00 bucks each, I stopped by a salvage company today and the guy was asking $400.00 for some that were smaller than mine.
You will have to come over and visit, we'll cookout and light a bonfire, I'll even have my bees by then, BUT BRING MY PINEAPPLE WITH YOU!!

This is the haul from last week's plant sale - most is destined for the herb garden, but there's tomatoes in there, and a few other things for other parts of the yard. It doesn't seem to change, though - I plant a bunch and a bunch take their place on the porch (sticky pot syndrome is a real problem with me).
