I wanted to insulate the solar shed, so I could over winter some plants. I only want to go from zone 5 to zone 6. I told the contractor that I use for my house. He was at house yesterday and checked out shed. He and I are not on the same page, I don't think we are the same book. He is used to me being NEUROTIC and wanting perfection not caring about cost. That is not the case for a shed in back yard, I kept saying cheap he kept saying it is his craftsmanship on line. I have a feeling this willn't end well, will be a shame because he does do good work.

You really lose me here, Nyboy. I am so used to doing all the building, insulation, repairing work ourselves that arguing/conversing with a contractor is beyond my abilities. I have never heard of insulating being a craftsman issue since we've always covered our insulation up with wall-covering of some sort.

It seems to me that insulation a small building like that should be an easy weekend project.

HUH? DO NOT skimp on the insulation. You have seen the photos of my greenhouse. It faces due south and 2 walls are attached to the house. It has a 4 inch floor of concrete which retains solar heat. The roof and knee wall are heavily insulated. It is open to the house, However, the first few years it was not. Even before it was totally complete it never froze with no heat added. Due to south facing and insulation.

Bay don't laugh I had a client do that and a koi pond on their brown stone in NYC. Its not the insulation but what is going to cover it. He is worried about finished walls and how they look. I did send him , I have to say this is 2nd winter so far only been used to store lawn furniture

That's a sunshed!

Little adaptation need be done to make that into a very useful little greenhouse. Yes, insulation.

NyBoy, I needed to have a furnace put in mine and was extending the south side at the same time, new foundation on that side, etc. I couldn't do the electric nor furnace so I thought I'd just turn it all over to a contractor. Nope ... they were nice ... nope.

I had to arrange for both excavator for the gas line and furnace guys and do the foundation/south wall work myself. If you would not be violating building codes, maybe your nephew knows a handyman ...
