That's exactly right. If you are not going to use the usual means to keep worms away, you have to take the time to do something else. Because unlike some other vegetable's pests, there's not much salvaging corn once earworms have gotten to an ear...IMHO.

I've heard of vegetable oil being used, but mineral oil is more common.

Just a couple of drops, and as I mentioned earlier, evening is best, very early morning the second choice. Never later morning, or afternoon. :)
