Corn

No, let them be. They will set additional ears after you pick the first one off. They may not pollinate as well or big as large but they still eat.
Thanks. I'll do just that.

My three sisters are coming along, the potimarron winter squash is germinating...

...and so are the beans:

You can see, I planted rows instead of hills. It will be interesting to see if it the beans pull down the corn. I gave the corn quite a head start, and now I have my fingers crossed.

How long after the corn ears get silks would you say they are ready to harvest?! :D
I wouldn't know because the squirrels devour my corn ears while they are still fairly small. I didn't plant a lot of corn but I had 15 stalks with 1 - 2 ears each, but then came the attack of the squirrels.

Those little rodents are taking bites out of my tomatoes too.

BB GUN!!!! I had to take out a bunny the other night... it chewed up my sugar snap pea vine.... I was TICKED!!! It was pretty much done producing, don't get me wrong... but I had peas drying on the vine for me to have more peas to the fall. So I'm annoyed!

It looks like my first round of corn will be ready next weekend while I'm at the beach!!! I better send my more over to get it. ;)

i was taught to push your finger nail against a kernel when it resists slightly then pops its ready to eat.
