I've had some total garden failures and wild success this year. I am officially tired of tomatoes. I am officially tired of green beans. I think I am ready for winter so I can do something that isn't garden. Dummy me has 45 freakin' Cornish Cross that will be ready to process the end of October.

Yeah, 45 Cornish Cross. I’ve got 25 sold. Still plenty for us. Since I’ve had so many tomatoes, I made BBQ sauce. Can’t wait to put a couple of theses dirty birdies on the pit and slop them down with home made BBQ sauce! Yum!

Ugh. I raised cornish cross once and never again. They are so stinky, so dirty, and so dumb it's shocking they can maintain life long enough to be slaughtered. Sure tasted good though.

I call them dirty birdies. After 4 inches of rain night before last, they were in stinking puddles and slop. I moved their chicken tractor, banked the coop all the way around with dirt (to keep those durned snaked from slithering under it) and gave them fresh pine shavings. They were a mess. It rained last night and is still raining, so may have to move them again today. They are a LOT of work, but are a good way to raise a lot of meat in a very short time. I feed them fermented feed, they are usually moved daily to fresh ground/grass and the meat is much better than store bought. I haven't bought chicken in years. I take that back, we bought 40 pounds of leg quarters on sale a few months back, but I canned those for the dogs.

These past 2 weeks have been so busy and it wasn't for the garden. DH took a week off and we started on the biggest project ever, painting the exterior of our house. We have a loooooong way to go but I know it will be wor th it. Thank God the weather is cooler! Garden is still going strong. Lots of peppers. I harvested some pinto beans and shelled them. Harvested more winter squash. Letting the okra go to seed now. Okra plants make me itch, no rash just an annoying itch. Planted carrot, radish and beet seeds. Also transplanted mint to a raised bed my DH and FIL made for me. I hope everyone else is doing well.
