Well, here's an interesting anecdote.

DS#1 has gotten over his Covid. He mentioned that while he was ill, his blood sugar spiked by about 300%, to the point where even tripling his insulin couldn't bring it down. We were really concerned. But here's the odd part... now that he has recovered, he told me today that his glucose level fell to normal range. He is taking all of his medication now at pre-Covid levels, which makes it doubly strange, given that he was having trouble controlling his blood sugar prior to Covid. Whether this was a result of the infection or the medication he took during his illness, this may be worth looking into. I hope the effect lasts.

just heard on the news last night our local hospital is now clear of any covid cases. our fed. goverment has on order enough vaccine to vaccinate every single Canadian plus some to share with others if needed. i've had shingles 4 times, my GP sent me for the vaccine. anyone who has had chicken pox can get shingles and i believe anyone can get chicken pox from someone who has shingles. I'm down to typing with one finger so i'm missing some of the capital letters .

Zeed: a friend in Illinois had covid and along with tons of other physical issues, also had diabetes. She recently spent 22 days in the hospital for back spine surgeries (3 of them cus of issues after each one) and breathing problems.

Now that she's been home for three weeks, she no longer has to take insulin. In fact, repeated poking of her finger multiple times a day resulted in just poked fingers. No spikes in blood sugar. She is now going off insulin.

Look at the numbers. See the trees... ignore the hysteria. Covid is to be taken serious as are flu’s, pneumonia, cancer, etc. take necessary precautions that you need. Peace

So this is not a one-off. We might be discovering something important here, that could have long-term ramifications for treating diabetes. It would be a blessing if something life saving were to emerge from this catastrophe.

no, i asked him to post a link to the stats as in the past he's made claims (more than a few times) that aren't what i'd consider accurate and in the whole paragraph i quoted he also made claims that don't reflect a wider experience i'm familiar with. if you're stunned by someone asking someone else to back up a claim with a cite that others can all go look at then i'm not sure you'd want to read any other of my replies as you'd think i was calling everyone a liar.

when people make a claim that looks like a personal belief there's not much i can say about that other than "Good luck with that!" when someone makes a claim citing some other source but doesn't provide a link then i can't verify it at all other than having to go search for it. if i have time i'll do the search, i did, but i could not find a likely source right away and i was busy so it was a waste of my time.

thanks for the link. i'll go see if i can find the actual information at the CDC as the site you cite doesn't provide a link to the place they got those numbers from (unless you sign up with them).

good to hear they got the hospital cleared up.

wow, four times, that must not have been any fun at all.

and yes that is what i've read about shingles too. we've had two people in our direct family who've had shingles just in the past few months (one relative living with the other decided to go get the vaccine for shingles after seeing what the other person went through) and a lot of other people i know have had it the past few years. there is no way i want to get it so in the next few years i'll get it done, but right now my priority is to get the vaccine for C-19 because that is the one i'm much more likely to have troubles from if i catch it and i feel a large part of responsibility for the health of the person i live with and i don't want to put her at risk at all.

ok, here is a link (at the bottom) to the actual numbers at the CDC.

if you can make sense of them i think you'd understand that the most recent numbers are not that high because reporting lags by a few weeks. so those won't be in the totals yet, but as time goes on these will be adjusted as the reports from the states come in. the numbers of new infections means we're still in for a world of hurt and more deaths over the coming months, this even with better understanding and better treatment.

as for comparison between pneumonia and COV-19 deaths. they're pretty close and i'm not actually sure how to interpret those numbers with all the footnotes and differences in coding and such.

the overall point though of the numbers is tracing the totals and comparing between what is normal and what is considered extra and to me that number is still looking to be over "normal" and that is in spite of all the social distancing and masks and the fact that a lot of people have been vaccinated for pneumonia.
