Scavenged a perfectly good and very nice kid's slide off the curb today! Perfect for the little playground I'm creating for my grandgirls out of scavenged items...so far have built a playhouse of pallets and other scrap lumber, roofed it with old tin from back in the 30s that I found under our old lumber pile, etc.

Will also be putting up a tire swing, using an old tire we have here on hand...hope to canvas the bottom of it out of material from a discarded lawn chair. The slide we got today will be attached to an old wooden step ladder we scavenged off the curb as well.

Can't wait to get her little scrap play yard done! Has been a really fun project all around.

Sounds like so much fun! You need to show us pictures when it's done. :)

A few pics of the pallet playhouse and curb side slide...she got to play in it for the first time these past few days and she LOVES it! Couldn't get her out of it, she woke up in the night wanting to go play in it, woke up early to get Gran up so she could go out to her "house".

All the wood was recycled wood from pallets, shipping crates, deconstructed furniture, or scavenged right out of the trash. The tin was salvaged from an old house built in the 30s. The little table was built from legs sawed off an old bedstead, the kitchenette was bought at Goodwill for $10, the slide found on the curb with the trash, the baskets, pans, curtains, chair, apron, etc. were all from GoodWill for $1-$2 ea. The hardware was recycled from old doors.

It ain't perfect and you won't see it on Pinterest, but it got the right reaction!

@Beekissed , Oh, that is perfect! And that big, happy smile...priceless! I love the little curtains and the flower box. I am going to have to show this to my husband. We've been sitting on a huge pile of scrap lumber in our barn for years. It was there when we bought the house. There is so much, I think I have plenty for the new chicken coop and then some. What little girl wouldn't love something like this?

That's what I kept telling my mother....what I wouldn't have done with a little house like that when I was little!

The very hardest part was using the sawsall to cut the boards off of the 12 pallets used in the construction of this little house. My spine is in pretty bad shape and all the vibration of the saw puts it on high alert, but it was totally and completely WORTH it to see how excited she is about this playhouse. When her little sister gets old enough to play with her, they are going to practically live in that little house.

Will be putting little family pictures on the walls, stocking it with books and a set of deer antlers over the door...it must be the typical WV cabin shack. :D

Journey, I'd say get yourself a big bucket of wood screws and have a little fun with that scrap lumber. :thumbsup
