Hi,
I'm new to this group. I joined because I have a wonderful volunteer squash that is a cross between Acorn Squash and yellow summer squash. I looks like a spaghetti squash, but it is like a yellow squash inside. Tastier and bigger than crooknecks. One squash makes a meal for two people. I have pictures, but don't know how to upload them here.

Welcome! Welcome! Lucky you- a volunteer that tastes good. Those squash/pumpkin/zucchini can taste kind of funny!! One of the things I enjoy most about gardening are the pleasant surprises- like volunteers and self seeders. Sometimes I have to laugh when I see where nature plants something. I was thinking the other night- I have more flowers in the cracks of my sidewalk than some people have in their yards!! Tell us all about your garden!

Squash cross so easily that sometimes your volunteers can come out something monstrous! I get a kick out of letting them grow just to see what it comes out as. :p Sounds like you got a tasty one!

I have been calling them "mutant squash" when I give them to friends. These are really the best squash I've ever had. The skin is less knobby than crooknecks. I have one that I am leaving to make seed - and to see just how big they will get. I expected the big ones to be pithy and seedy, but they are not so far. The bush is so prolific and hardy that it is taking over the whole garden and keeping 3 or 4 families in squash. I have 2 store-bought crookneck bushes that are fighting for survival from the squash bugs. Haven't seen a bug on this one yet.

Yes, it will. Doesn't F2 give you half and half? I don't know if I'm up to a whole genetic experiment. I would just like to get some more like these. Of course, it may cross pollinate with the crooknecks again and be different again. Who knows.

Here is what I got from Delicata seeds saved last year. I don't know what they crossed with. The parent delicata is about 6" to 8" long and a narrow cylinder with fine yellow flesh. I have not tried the big yellow one yet but the fat one that is colored a lot like the delicata has coarse green flesh. The taste is pretty good but I did not like the texture.

These grew on different vines. All the squash on one vine looks the same.
