My friend's mom has "harvested" dandelions for several years from their yard (a farm) and now she laments that she can't find any anymore for her salads, fried blossoms, dandelion wine etc. They're all GONE. So... with that in mind....

Mint will regrow from even a little piece of root left in the ground, so probably the worst tactic is to till it. You are essentially multiplying it by cutting the root into smaller pieces. Hand pulling religiously is the way to go. And containment of the original plant of course, if possible.

Yesterday at the plant sale setup I found a six-pack of dandelions for sale - seriously! They were some fancy Italian-named type. Some people really love the early spring greens of the dandelions, my old father-in-law collected them (he was an old-world Italian and a wonderful cook). I never could get used to the taste, however.
