When pinching off dead flowers do you throw them in the same pot or throw them away? I have been throwing them in the same pot thinking it will compost..

I am always afraid of problems with insects if I leave the dead headed blooms, in the container. When I pull them off, I toss them in the compost pile...

I usually throw the dead blooms back in the pot, except geraniums, they take up too much room. I was wondering about leaving leaves in the garden, too. For instance, when you cut a cabbage, there is all that extra leaf material. It makes good ground cover/mulch. But it looks kinda shabby for a while. I have left it, and I have put it in the compost pile. My garden is not that tidy, but I have my limits.
For flower pots, I like to see what comes up next year, by leaving spent blooms in the pot. It's a surprise!

I just toss them over my shoulder and where they land... they land! lol
