When I brought my husband home from the hospital after his first knee replacement it was 5 days after our biggest snowstorm in 35 years. Though the roads were quite clear the hospital did not release him until rush hour traffic. He forgot to take his pain pill before we left. The 1 hour trip took at least 4 hours. After his cantankerous mood for 4 hours I was ready to head to the nearest psych hospital and check myself in. We were both inexperienced with patient care and very stressed over my taking care of him on my own. I felt like he was very breakable. We did weather it and the 2nd knee surgery was a breeze. He did not take any pain meds the second time. He said there was no pain. One thing to remember is those drugs do cause personality change. Good luck. Take all of the public assistance you can get. NVA. It is great to have a pro checking them out for you so you know that they are going to be OK. It will be down hill from here. Good luck!
Bay, I am amazed at your calm, collected attitude. I could feel the "mother bear" clawing to get out and that was just reading about your DH. I did recently apologize to our doctor for behaving like a first time mommy where treatment for my DH was involved.
Depending on what my dad is having trouble with I keep calm. It has to be something really stupid to make me go off like a firecracker (as my dad says),,,, I would have lost my composure and went off on someone.
