We know that "hardiness zones" have to do with winter cold extremes. The Growing Seasons could not have greater contrasts. At least, that is my impression from having visited these to cities.

By the way:

The East Bay has some variations. I'm sure you know, Mary.

It has a lot to do with elevations. (And, where fog settles. I just learned how we are supposed to imitate foghorns: Pioooooouu . . . . I'll soon find a way to make an enemy in Mobile, too.)

Hmm...all this time I thought I was in zone 8b but zone 10a temps are about right. Yes, we do have micro pockets here, even within Alameda.
