Well, I got my little egg shell umbrellas fixed, ready to go out in the garden tomorrow. I used wooden skewer sticks, poked a hole from inside the egg shell half with the point of the skewer, then hot glued the stick in. I also put a dab of glue on the top of the "umbrella" to help stabilize the stick. I'll stick them in the ground about 3" or so. I have only seen one cabbage moth so far this season, as the weather has not been conducive to creatures like that. (or to me) I will let you know if it works at all. Marshall, in answer to your question way back, I used raw egg shells, rinsed out.

What an interesting idea! I too have chickens that give me green/blue eggs and I'm going to give it a try. But I wonder if half an eggshell would simply balance upside down on the end of a stick without glue or poking a hole in the shell? Or would wind or hard rain knock it off? I/m afraid I might want to poke the stick in my eye before I finish trying to glue eggshells to skewers. I'm afraid I wouldn't have the patience for it this time of year. :D

With the wind we get here, I'n not even sure that poking a hole and gluing will hold them. Honestly, it doesn't take long. I just hold the shell down on a paper towel folded three times, to make a little cushion. then poke the hole from inside the shell. Usually, a correct size hole will be poked. Of course, this may be all for naught. But I gotta try!:)
