I found a local bee club that meets monthly March through November.
I joined last night and will be going to the first meeting March 19.
I've been very interested in bees ever since I helped a beek boyfriend harvest honey when I was 19. I don't claim to know a lot, and there's much much more of even the basics I need to learn, but I've done a fair bit of reading through the years and kind of have an idea of the general topography anyway.
I'm excited to think I may finally be getting to do this.

So excited for you! I think you'll really enjoy them. They are mesmerizing. It's a really powerful feeling to stand over a box full of buzzing bees.

DH did it on his own! Lots of reading. Calls to friends of friends willing to share knowledge. He has not been able to find a club closer than an hour+ drive away! He is mesmerized by them. Here is a photo of the observation hive on the front porch. Papa and Grandsons learning about bees together.

Totally awesome, @Carol Dee ! It looks like you guys had a very good year. I would love to have an observation hive. Did your DH build his or buy it?

He drew it up and made it himself. Already there are changes he wants to make. Live and learn, right?

Our local conservation department has an observation hive but I don't think it is looking very good. I have never seen it appear to "thrive" just exist.
I am very excited for you, getting bees. I'm still mulling it over. There is really a lot to learn!
I made a quick trip through our local farm store yesterday and saw bee frames for sale in there. I think that is a first. Didn't stop to price as it was one of those peripheral consciousness things.

I will have to look and see if I can find a photo of the apeary on my mother's farm. She had one hive that was H U G E ( 4-6 x the size of the other bee hives built by her father ) and the back of it was removable so that I ( when I was a mere mini kid as I could just barely crawl at the time ) could look through the glass window and observe the entire inside of the hive and the activities of the bees.
