My dogs get the Kirkland Brand of dry food. They get 2 T of wet food on top, mixed with 1/2 cup water. They also eat all kinds of raw veggies, except onion, mushrooms, and cabbage. I've trained them to love veggies, by me smacking my lips and totally enjoying what I'm eating, then offering it to them. They are weird, people say.

When I was little, my grandma raised coon hounds. I don't remember seeing the dogs, as they were not "part of the family" but I do remember seeing her bake huge pans of cornbread, crumbling it up and pouring bacon grease over it, to feed the dogs. This was their regular feed, not just a treat occasionally.
It worked for them back then, but I doubt anyone would consider that a healthy diet for dogs or humans now.

Our black Lab/Great Dane Parker eats anything. To let him know a treat is coming, we say ALLIGATOR and toss it in the air. Huge jaws snap shut, gulp, treat is gone. It works great for pills too, just say ALLIGATOR and throw it at him. LOL

About 8 years ago there was a big recall on dogfood. What we learned was almost every high priced dog food company also made the much cheaper store named foods. Only difference besides price was bag food packed in :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Mine get Beef and Rice from Victor Dog Food. I buy it from the feed store.

I pay $36 a 40 pound bag for it, the dogs eat 2 bags a month. They also get leftovers, bones and other goodies. Anytime I cook sausage or other meats, I make dog gravy for them to put over their food. They love it. They are healthy and happy dogs.

I feed Victor too! I feed the one in the purple bag, Victor Professional Formula.

" Like all super-premium Victor formulas, Professional Formula is free of corn, wheat, soy and gluten as well as processed grain by-products. The result is a highly digestible food that requires less food intake to meet energy demands and yields minimal stool volume."

It lasts my 2 dogs a good month or more. My older dog Blue is 10 this year. She gets around and acts much better since switching to this feed.

That is too funny and, it seems, really effective for medicating hassle-free! I love it!

Yep...and folks didn't have to vet their dogs all the time back then either. I remember our dogs and all the dogs back then just eating kitchen scraps~stale biscuits, cornbread, bacon grease on top just like you mentioned, anything else that was cleaned out of the fridge. We never bought dog food.

Healthiest dogs you ever saw.

I used to feed them the purple bag, they stopped eating it, so I switched to the Beef and Rice. They are doing great on this food.
