I've got 4 dogs currently, 3 of which are mine and worth more than the world to me. Fourth is a turd, but she has her cute moments.
Working LGD Maremma/GP soon to be 2yrs, she hates vultures and groundhogs or anything else she doesn't know. Loves her job, easily accepts new critters. All she wants is to sit in your lap and be loved on constantly, only stops to protect her charges from an odd sound or smell, then back to demanding to be held and kissed. She learns things on her own, guards each animal from each other, not just predators. Likes to eat livestock feeds and sometimes even hay if everyone else is chowing down on it like it's candy! I like to take naps out in pasture with her and the doberpup, they usually cooperate.
Doberman Pinscher puppy about 8 or 9mo old. He's the total opposite of my last Doberman, who hated everything and only wanted to be with me. This new boy loves everyone, is wonderful with the livestock, willing to try anything I ask of him, learned to sit at 7wks old and is a total baby. He sleeps in the weirdest positions, I'm always taking pics of his new found sleeping style. He's klutzy and floppy and likes to slide off the couch instead of step off. He likes to poke and lick other animals, the cat finds it gross, mutt finds it annoying, he's best buds with the LGD like they were made for each other's company.
Chihuahua/MinPin 5yr mix isn't much like a chi or Pin at all, DNA test results just made us more confused. She's a natural hunter, catches wild birds from thin air, loves people, loves being outside hunting mice and birds. She's got a crazy coat like our LGD has, small and cute but has speed like a cheetah. She refused to live indoors the first couple of years, now she's a spoiled house dog. We call her a miniature coyote. She wants all strangers at stores or visitors to rub her belly, there is no other option!
Last is the English bulldog with a face only her dad could love. [she started out cute...] She hates other dogs, tried to kill the little mutt and the LGD, tolerates the Doberpup. She's freakishly fast and agile for short bursts of time. She can jump 4ft or fly onto the deck...it's crazy! She swallows things whole, no time for chewing! She'll eat anything, just like a real hog! Refuses to be potty trained in the least and now has her own room with a heated bed, dog door to her yard and porch...Ugh. I lovingly call her ms Fugly.
@secuono when I saw the pics of your little black dog, I immediately thought about the Schipperke dog. Your dog has a tail, the Schipperke is usually born without a tail, but can be born with a tail. Google for more pics.
Yes, my guess was Schipperke or something in the Spitz family. She even looked like one as a puppy. Her fur crimps after we bathe her, too.
We saw the mom, she was a real Chihuahua. Dad was some Min Pin that wasn't there at the time.
Test said full Chow on one side, then Giant Schnauzer, lab, poodle and something else on the other side. Yea, ok.....lol!
I know this is a gardening sight, but Seedcorn- I enjoyed this post as much as any I have seen on plants! Got a chuckle out of all these sweethearts! How lucky we are to share our lives with these wonderful creatures...
What's not to like about stories about our pets. That make our lives more enjoyable. Every good story needs pix! Especially for us males as we are visually oriented!
Last Thanksgiving, a turkey just wasn't to cut it. A real big Texas whoop-de-do and we needed a LOT of meat for the BBQ. The dog heard us discussing the BBQ and thirty minutes later, came home with this.
