Nice pictures Desertlady!!! I dont think MontyJ has posted any new pictures lately. Our garden is doing pretty good. We have tomatos, potatoes, cabbage, peppers (of some sort I dont like peppers) the normal stuff most people plant and can up for the winter. I'm looking foward to the garden this year because we havent had a garden in a while. I miss fresh green beans and such in the winter :) My beets are all gone :( I used the last of the tomatoes back in february :( they were from 2010 or 11. :) Cant wait to start canning veggies up again.

what recipe do you like for fried green tomatoes?
tomatoes sliced on the madalin 1/4" thick
lightly dusted with flour
quickly tossed in buttermilk
breaded in italian bread crumbs
deep fried in peanut oil<or your choice of oil >

serve with ranch dressing...

well tonight i switched it up..
we had a piece of blue cheese so grated some up
placed the fried tomatoes on a cookie sheet.
with the oven set on broil
placed a few pieces of cheese on each tomatoes and placed in oven, till melted

wow talk about delicious..

now if we had prosciutto here, could have added that and fresh basil to it.

would make drool for more...
hum got to work on that one...

Okay, I might be okay with some fried green tomatoes out of the oven with bleu cheese . . .

When I've had them a couple of times before, I think it was just somebody's variation on an eggplant recipe. And, to my tastes, eggplant would have been preferred.

And, I am a gardener who sometimes doesn't get more than green tomatoes off a variety I'm trying. I want tomato ! fruit ! not a vegetable. Okay, I might be willing to try them again.

when i say with blue cheese, it is very spearing since it is a very strong cheese.
but we all have our own tastes.

fried green tomatoes are great with just ranch dressing.

heck who would think that balsamic vinegar and raspberries would make a great topping over ice cream....

What about bleu cheese dressing?

I can't remember one dish but it was a casserole. There might have been a cheese in there . . .

Look, there has to be some good reason for a person to pick green tomatoes in June!!
