I check my flock each night just after they roost and again just before I go to bed around 10. Last night I thought I would take the scraps to the compost pile on my way to check the chickens.
Our scraps go from the kitchen sink to a bucket out on the back porch and then.... to the compost pile when it is full...every other day or so.
Well..the bucket was more then full last night, so I grabbed it and decided not to mess with the flashlight since I had the full bucket to carry.
Besides....I walk that little path every night countless times for 20 years we have lived here and I seldom use a flashlight.
So, I am walking in the dark, with my bucket full of garbage, to dump in the compost pile, when I suddenly find myself tumbling ass over elbows!!
So, as I was about to hit the ground, I remember thinking :

1. I forgot to ask hubby to move that wheelbarrel for me.
2. I have coffee grounds and eggshells raining down on my head.
3. This coulda won me the grand prize in AFV if only we had it on video.
4. Shoulda brought the flashlight.

When I came to rest on my side with my leg tangled up in the wheelbarrel....I realized I was indeed covered with the contents of the bucket.
I am no spring chicken so I figured something was broken...but, I was just bruised and battered. Hubby was concerned, but couldnt tell me cause he was too busy bout it.....
Anyway...they make flashlights for a reason and from now I will be taking one with me outside !!!!

I agree funny (after the fact!) but seriously glad you are ok!

I thought when I opened this you were going to say you encountered a opossum or some rodent :p

that has happened here in the dark and totally scared the crap out of me!

I have a love hate with my composting efforts and wish I could find a better way to do it

I would love to have one of this crank barrels people have that you just dump the stuff in and turn the crank then pour it out when you are done

but the reality is EVERY THING COSTS MONEY!!!

Hi mmtillman :frow

I am really pleased you are OK -- It's the shock of falling that throws you. I did it the other night after heavy rain -- slipped in the mud; my feet just shot out in front of me :hit I'm luckily OK too, but sporting an impressive technicolour bruise! :barnie

I had a long look at your photos -- Your garden is just WONDERFUL! :clap A veritable WONDERLAND! Full of entrancing views -- both of the garden & the surrounding countryside & the sound. I thought I recognised it!! I worked a few times for the Pacific Northwest Ballet & was lucky enough to be taken off into the country for various trips. Beautiful!

Have a great day! :coolsun
