Be not a baker if your head be of butter.

Today is National Cookie Day! Celebrate with one of our favorite cookie recipes.
I like butter cookies and thumbprint cookies and a couple of old family recipes--DD's have those recipes--such as
something called "sweetish squares", which was a hardish cookie with a walnut base and dusted with confectioner's sugar, with the consistency of a scone, but more crumbly. IF I can find the recipe I will post it.
If you look up the recipe you won't find it. It was my Hungarian Aunt's family recipe.
I saw a German lady's instagram post this week where she made thumbprint cookies but used lemon curd instead of jam for the filling. I think I'm going to try that.

"Amaryllis bulbs can stay dormant up to 12 months without any issues, as long as you store them properly. However, for the best results, I recommend planting them every year, otherwise they will dry out and eventually die."
YOU know how it is, we are desperate for anything that will grow this time of year!!

I had to ALSO post this recipe, bc the precious recipe doesn't tell you HOW to add eggs to hot liquid and not cook them. Look at Step#3.

The "Walnut Roll" I was Told, was a family recipe. I guess that means all Europeans are related to me, bc every European county owns this recipe as their own.
My family used to make this for Easter.
If you haven't ever had a piece, it is nutty and meaty and sweet and great with coffee.

I have heard of people who planted a bald cypress, NOT knowing it would grow 70 ft tall!
Anyway, it is a valuable tree:

Sounds yummy!!
This is our sinful indulgence for Christmas - I never cook it outside of the holiday season, mostly because there is literally no food in it, just pure sugar and GMO cornstarch! Lol But DD just loves lemon anything so this is her special treat.

The "Walnut Roll"
Reminds me of the cinnamon rolls my mom made on the farm. We had walnut trees. Big, productive English walnut trees!

I suppose one might call it my first job — cracking walnuts and selling them to the store in the nearby community :). But, I also cracked them for Mom. When I first had a cinnamon roll from a bakery and learned that everyone didn't fill them with walnuts, I don't know :).
