if they can ever figure out a pill to regrow a healthy pain free spine that will be a great help to billions of people. i was hoping the nanobot craze would manage something like that but it seems to have fizzled out - they could not figure out the right pina-colada mix to go with it, maybe they needed ham and pineapple pizza to go with it...

we had some kind of jeep back in the '70s, my sister painted flower power flowers on it in bright colors and Mom did something paisley inside. this was Dad's deer hunting ride. :)

i just asked Mom what kind of vehicle it was but all she knew was that it was a jeep. she was driving it to where my cousin lived at that time and she got pulled over and the police officer made the mistake of asking her if it was hers... "You don't think I'd steal this peace of S*$T..." and she then says to me then that "He sure regretted asking." she still doesn't often edit her comments much at all.

SeedsNOW order came in. I thought that I had forgotten to click on the freebie after I completed the order.
They sent it ANYWAY!!!! :woot
Doesn't sound like Much, a sample package of Italian Garlic, only 3 cloves, BUT, they are Big cloves, ALL garlic is going in this weekend--highs in the 50's since Thursday and through next Tuesday-- AND I didn't take good care of my Italian Garlic, so I get a do over!! :celebrate
I should add, I did not Kill it, it Does survive my winters. I planted it in in a clayish flower bed, that should have been amended and didn't harvest all of it. There is still Some in the front bed ready to grow next year.

I have my marching orders with my new composter, which was deposited on the west side of the house, right below the washroom/side entrance windows. ALL coffee grounds go into it, and that it a daily thing. Used tea bags are now less of a thing since DH has pretty much given up iced tea--he used to drink decaf.
Middle DD gave us a camp coffee drip maker this year. It came with 2 kinds of filters, both unbleached, one package is cone shaped and meant for this coffee maker. So, I am going through the normal serrated unbleached filters when I make iced tea for myself and eldest DD.
"Generally, a ratio of 3 parts to 4 parts browns to 1 part greens works well, but you do not need to be exact about it."
  • Greens to browns (simple measurement): 1:1 (half greens, half browns) or 1:2 (1/3 greens to 2/3 browns) by volume.

  • Carbon to nitrogen (tricky measurement): 25-30:1 (25 to 30 parts carbon to 1 part nitrogen) by weight.

"You want to make your pile about 1/3 greens to 2/3 browns. So, you’ll throw in 1 bucketful of greens for every 2 bucketfuls of browns. "
I have cardboard--just like EVERYBODY ELSE!!!--and cardboard egg cartons and hay/straw on the floor of my barn to add.
This will be a learning curve.
I expect the composting to go very slowly over the next several months, but I will share my adventure with you'all!! :love

This weekend I dropped the 5 small 2024 pumpkins that were rotting into the tractor bucket as DH was driving to dump a load over by my line of pine trees S and SW of the garage. I expect at least one of them to sprout this year and cover the area. The up and down temperatures contributed. You really need to store pumpkins inside, in a cool and dry spot, for them to last, OR, in a dry spot buried in straw.
I moved the rest from the glass porch (enclosed, not heated) table. One small one was rotting, so it went to the new composter. Two medium sized ones were baked down and the pulp is awaiting ingredients this weekend for a pie.
The other two are downstairs in the pantry in a cardboard box for...later.
I am Tired of beiger pumpkins!!! I have seeds for other colors that I will be growing this year.
DD's had 2/15 harvested pumpkins. One was decorated with a Sharpie by GS for Thanksgiving and the other had been eaten on by a squirrel on the cement borders of their front steps. BOTH were thrown out in their "weed patch" in the back yard, They don't mind growing beige pumpkins as long as they can suppress weeds there.
Finally, my red amaryllis has woken up. Here it is next to 1/3 of the pink amaryllis pups growing side by side. Below is DD's pink amaryllis. She has placed her plant rack close to the aisle so that passers by can oogle it as it flowers, and be amazed!
