Yesterday I was in town for a dr appt., one hour, 15 minutes, very thorough, signed some kind of drug contract, got my tramadol, NOW I sound like a whinykins! :\
Drove to Lowe's, went to Customer Service to see if either or both of the Lowe's gift cards had any cash on them.
AGain, the $50 one didn't show any money, and was the same as last time I tried it there.
I am willing to try one last time and have a clerk run it instead of me.
The $25 gift card worked, so I bought a 5-pack of lawn/leaf bags (for yard cleanup and convenient burning,) and, since it looks like one or NONE of the three 2024 blueberries survived the winter :hit, I bought a midseason blueberry.
Instructions say to transplant 6-8 weeks after the last frost, which means late June.
I am having my sweet potatoes and canopy babysit it right now, bc I will be checking on them every week, if not more often.
I plopped it, packaging and all, right in the middle of the tomato caging.
At some point soon, I will need to transplant it while it grows indoors, and a small pot might fit on the outside of the sweet potato "plastic blanket." I have saved used ziploc bags for such purposes.
It needs to be growing in the basement for a full 3 months. By that time I will know if any of the blueberries survived and where in the "garlic patch" it will be transplanted.

Ducks have you ever grown figs? I was thinking about my Chicago Fig tree, and how it's springing to life in my dining room and it occurred to me this plant is from Illinois. It can likely overwinter easily where you are.

Yes, the 1/2 crippled Duck got her "God mower" and tow wagon" out today and picked up sticks and filled the tow wagon for burning.
I had had to water my small salad bed. IT has been So dry this past week, but I see tiny little radishes have sprouted.
I Also filled up 4 more sowing jugs, with Bloomsdale Spinach, Early Snowball Cauliflower (coated seed), white, Red and White Cabbage (same jug), and more White Lisbon Bunching salad onions.
It looks like 9 jugs fit nicely in one window well. With tomorrow's excessive winds they shouldn't blow away.

Ya know, I was just thinking the same thing...
I don't know if you like figs, but if you do it might be a plant to think about getting. I have tried the fresh figs in the grocery store and they were blech, but the little ones off my tree were AMAZING. I understand now all my European friends who used to exclaim about the deliciousness of fresh figs back home and I had no idea what they were talking about. Now, I get it!

Follow up:
Dunno how much sleep I got last night, being up to watch the celestial, the Blood Moon
This morning DH and I burned the stuff in the tow wagon, to ready it for...MORE pickup and burning!!
Here are some shots, and my tow wagon was full to the brim when we started. Winds have been picking up, so I stayed to be sure that no embers would start an unwanted fire.
Firepits are really great bc they contain what you burn. I built Mine so that there are 3-4 ft of cement pavers surrounding it.
It's ALWAYS a good idea to monitor your fire, even IF it just rained and the soil is soaked and there is no wind. I stirred it up and saw a lot of ash.
I was satisfied, when you see the last photo, that it will burn itself into ash. Most of the pieces that I pushed together were having some trouble and they were surrounded by ash.

Got radishes up!! They are tiny, but they will be easy to see in a week.
I have watered this bed this whole week, I intend to water it this afternoon one more time, but heavy rain is expected tonight, tomorrow mid day and snow on Sunday!
If I have enough energy, there will be some more direct seeding today, too.
