I planted potatoes OUTside yesterday. 5 were bought-Yukon Gold. The other 19 were growing 2-3 inch roots in my potato bin. They're ALIVE!! They're ALIVE!! They're ALIVE!! **ducks does a Frankenstin imitation**

This is one of raised beds that needs to be dug deeper and housed better. By the time of harvest, it will be mid-May. I plan to make this my 2012 Sweet and Hot pepper bed then.
Cannot believe a week of over 70 degree highs--IN Mid-MARCH!!!!! :th

Woot! How wonderful... I think potatoes are one of my favorite things to plant. It is magical to put a potato in the ground, and then go on a treasure hunt and find bunches more!! Enjoy spring!

Thanks!! It'll be easy to mound them in this bed. It's gonna be so easy to harvest, too, since the bed will be torn apart, redug and I'll put brand new wood around in at that time. The potatoes growing roots in my bin were SCREAMING to go into the ground, too.

I think its awesome you got them in! Isn't it usually defrosting for you right now?

Yes, potatoes are amazing! I hope to get even more this year planting then in a raised bed. I'm doing the yukon gold too!!!

Yeah, I was expecting snow around this part of March!!...go figure...
I even moved my 2 basement potatoes--one is on the front porch, and the other went into another raised bed. If we get a freeze I'll just cover that one. I can close the windows on the porch, too. I also moved my indoor strawberry, including the one fruit on it, and my Serrano peppers onto the porch this weekend.
My Amish farrier was out last Friday, and they're planting early, too. They live about 30 minutes further (latitude) south of us.
