Steve...years ago I ordered some dutch bulbs from Dutch Gardens. They were twice the size of other brands. I always wished I had ordered the yellow instead of the purple because they would have stood out much better.
I had forgotten about this company until you mentioned it. I would like to order some yellow iris's but I checked their website and I didn't find any dutch iris's. I pretty sure that's what they were called.
Is their such a thing as dutch iris's or is my memory failing me?

Mary, there is such a thing as a "Dutch iris." I guess they are also called Spanish iris.
I bought some once but there were less and less until they were gone. It didn't seem to require very long, either. Probably don't like such cold winters. I should realize that since my bright yellow Siberian iris has no problems.
One would think that an outfit called Dutch Gardens would carry them. Dutch Gardens is now part of a conglomerate and they must have moved the Dutch iris, next door. I discovered that their sister company "Royal Dutch" has mixed Dutch iris (click).
I have also had good experiences ordering from Van Bourgondien. They have a "Lion King" Dutch iris but it is a fairly dark gold (click).
The sun made a brief appearance here today but apparently, being in and out of the greenhouse often was sufficient to provide ventilation. The furnace did click off fairly early and it stayed off until about 3pm.
Our 1st day this year with a high temperature above 50F was the 16th of January. We thought that was wonderful! But, we will soon arrive 3 months from that date never having seen the outdoor thermometer reach a high of 60.
