I used to hunt Mourning doves in Cal. for many years. Very tastey. They are very hard to hit while in flight due to their flight paterns of zig and zag that tests your marksmanship skills . Since moving to Washington, I haven't seen a single one. This morning , I saw a pair of colored doves fly over my garden and land on the next door neighbor's house for a few minutes for the first time , then few away.

we counted over 70 of the mourning doves on the wires yesterday evening. i think they were having a clan meeting.

There is a research report (link at bottom of the page) on neonicotinoid and its effect on migrating birds. The researcher points out that 90% of all fatalities occur during the migration of migratory species.
