We are still finding Blackberrys here. Our dogs love themI wonder what kind of berry ripens in October? Elderberries ripened months ago.
The ones in the mountains wild in Idaho are blue. We picked some one year and I dehydrated them and sent some to Kansas to a friend. In Western Wa. State thr Red ones grow wild. Their berries are toxic when raw and they must be cooked prior to eating.

Last year I bought 4 Black- SAMBUCUS NIGRA from https://www.crimson-sage.com/
I was also given one from a neighbor, Paul Gautschi, Back To Eden Gardening.
I kept them in the greenhouse until July

Then I made an Elderberry bed area. I got them all planted out side the side-yard and fenced them off to keep the deer out. and they are doing great. I did put straw around them to keep them damp over summer and protect them from snow.

YES!!I think I need to go dig up some of the wild elderberries where my husband and I always picked. There is quite a nice patch on one of the back country roads not far from here, where the road goes over a creek. Yup, I need those and some wild plums too. I'll pot them up and try to keep them alive until I find my permanent home.
