I installed a Sentry 2 call monitoring system two years ago. It intercepts all unwanted calls including political calls.

"Do not call" registry
I have no idea what good that thing does. It seems like there is virtually no enforcement for our home phone.

I updated our phone #'s twice since initially signing on. It might be that cellphone #'s have more enforcement but the house phone receives several call each and every day.

Recently, there was a credit card outfit. The ID looked like it might be a Houston bank. Checked a little online, the actual bank had a kind of disavow of the card company. A public: Not Them!

By the time I had finished with that little exercise, a Houston security outfit called on my cellphone #! So, it might be that defense triggers another effort to sell security service! How legit are the "who called" sites?

Being a consumer cynic isn't much fun but being prey ... less so.

Steve, that do not call list stops most legitimate businesses from calling. It does nothing to help against crooks. It's something like putting a lock on your door, that keeps honest people honest.

On occasion, when I get a human calling and I feel polite (not often for either or those), I may ask why the "Do not call" list doesn't apply to them. They normally hang up pretty quickly. The ones that mumble a quick apology tend to not call back. The others, well crooks are crooks.

My opinion only, of course, but if anyone is offended by this they probably should be.

I have deduced (Maybe wrongly) that those telemarketers keep on calling till they can talk to someone. The same number has called me at least 5 times.
I *think* that if you tell them to stop calling you, they do. But that means you have to answer the call. Often it appears to be a call from my own area code and prefix.
Lately I have been answering those calls. When they say "Can you hear me OK?" I say "Do not call me again" and hang up.

Even if it doesn't work, it makes me feel assertive, lol.

I let my machine run. If it's someone I know I quickly pick up. Otherwise I just let the phone ring. Occasionally I like to pick up and say Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, can't hear you and hang up. I enjoy pulling their chain, haha.
