I like Buckeyes. We've been considering get them because they are an Ohio heritage breed... and because they're dual purpose.

I'm originally from Ohio! That's one of the reasons we decided to get them.They do really well here in our mild winters and super hot & humid summers. I have some great contacts up there for some REALLY nice birds if you are interested.

I really love my Buckeyes. My rooster is a big boy and he's very good to his ladies and a great protector. He's only ever challenged me a handful of times. The last time was right after I had knee surgery. I think it was because I had a big bandage wrapped on my leg, but he decided to spur me and I turned around and gave him one giant kick, he went flying, and I've not had a problem since! My husband has never had a problem with him, but I think that's because I am out there much more than he is and would be considered Alpha.

Is that a typo that the contest ends 1/15/13? I haven't been on this site in ages, so I don't know if this was over long ago, but if you can win a 2014 calendar, it seems current....
