Oh No! So sad to see that (but thanks for the news).

GMOs tread on dangerous ground IMO. We avoid anything made from GMO corn and soy. Now fish. :barnie

I think the FDA will approve anything if there is enough money behind it.

Three words.......Hybrid Stipper Bass (a total success).
I have nothing against hybrids. That's within the bounds of nature and happens all the time in the wild, often resulting in new species.
That's a far cry however from tampering with basic DNA.

It's it, basically, the same....crossing? Of course, I reckon, one way was "done" naturally, maybe, and the other, scientifically. But as technology and science advances, so do the way things are done. Don't get me wrong.....I'm not a pro-GMO person, by no means.....Just trying to understand the difference, in layman terms.....when it comes to this fish "issue". Will the GMO Salmon be able to reproduce genetic copies of themselves or will they mutate? That's the question I wonder about, since it isn't a "natural" cross.

So question is... does a striped bass hybrid act like a bass? Naturally? Does it reproduce? Does it eat the same in the enviroment it is in?

I think it does... it was a cross that was possible in nature, and happened. Like some cross pollinated squash can happen naturally, and become a new good tasting type hybrid!

This salmon thing, they go in and alter the DNA for the fish to act differently then a normal fish would, the possiblity of this happening is a NO, mother nature would never create a creature to act as it acts, and eat as it eats. We went as far as to make sure it doesn't reproduce because we KNOW it is a danger to the natural balance of nature! So if we have to take precautions to keep it contained, then simply it is a BAD idea!
