Around February, I took three cuttings from a HUGE fig tree in my son's yard. Only one of the cutting "took". Even though I water it every day, I never, really, paid close attention to it and had only kept notice of the leaf growth. Well, this afternoon I looked CLOSER at it and, lo and behold, there are 6 little figs on it. Pretty cool....and TOTALLY unexpected.

That's great!

I really want to plant a fig tree this year.

I had figs for the FIRST TIME in my life last year and they were wonderful!

Congratulations. That's one thing I've never eaten is a fig, and I have no idea why. Sounds like it is easy to grow once you get it rooted?

Figs are "bad to the bone". This is my second attempt at rooting one. Gonna transplant it when the leaves all fall off, this fall. And you can bet.......I'm gonna 'baby' this one.

Honestly, v....I was flyin by the seat of my britches, doing it. I made a clean 45 degree cut on a healthy looking limb, stuck it down in a pot with regular soil out of the garden and kept it watered REAL well.

My daughter-in-law could just about get a cinder block to root, and she said that she splits the 45 degree cut before she sticks it in the pot. Would probably help to coat it in "root starter", too.....but I didn't do either and I got away with it.....on one out of three cuttings.

You know the old saying......Sometimes, even a blind hog finds an acorn

If you can't get one to root, we were very happy with our "fig twig" from the Park Seed catalog. (Brown Turkey fig)

It started out as an unremarkable twig for around $6, and grew into a big healthy bush by the time we sold that place and moved. Hopefully its new person takes good care of it!

When Momma wants to root a fig limb she, pushes the branch close to the ground and sets a rock on it to wait it down and it roots, then next season she digs just that on branch off the main tree.

we have 3 huge trees and she is giving the figs away this year because she nor i climb a leader to pick them. I love the fresh figs or dehydrated figs but I dont care for the preserves or cooked figs. But I just started back to work so I have no time to do anything with them, and she has 2 grandbabies to tend and garden and chickens, and it is HOT in bama right now.
