If it took 4+ years to find them, perhaps they're not overpriced.;)
No, it is.
70-80 for a tiny tree when someone has been selling for 10. And no one knows what these trees are, so your paying more for being "rare".

Where did you find these? Was it online or a local nursery? I've been looking too. I was at a hellebore sale a couple of weeks ago & someone had pawpaws for $30. Having never tried the fruit, I was reluctant to spend $60. But now that I've checked them out across the internet.. I wish I had gone with the $30 trees!

Semi local guy that hunts forests for seeds and grows different plants in his backyard.

Got 12 yearlings and 23 seeds. Planted some, more to make protective cages & plant in the woods by the creek.

Went to a park and found 2 trees. Got some fruit and finally ate some.

Disappointing festival. Took forever to get there, almost nothing pawpaw actually available by vendors. Poor planning as well.
But was able to scavange up 10 fruit to plant their seeds!

Took lots of pics to share what they look like in the woods. Out in sun they grow differently.

I now have a lot of seeds!
I'll be making "air pruning" bags for the seeds. In fridge until spring, then potted.
Some seeds I'll plant now, just need to find good markers to find them later and mini shelters so wildlife doesn't eat them.
