I was wondering about that. I saw that commercial soap manufacturers can use Glycerin to make bar soap, but they actually use it for lotions and liquid soap due to it being more cost effective. I looked in my bathroom and saw that a few things I have had water and glycerin in the top 2 spots on the ingredients list. All of them but one were clear or at least translucent.

Does it matter what kind of oil it is? Could you use peanut or canola too?

Any kind of cooking oil is fine. My husband gets used frying oil from the local deli. They don't have to pay to dump it that way and he gets it for free.

I ran a little test while making the batch this past weekend. I didn't heat the oil before I did the mixing. This worked and made some nice Bio, but the reaction was not as complete as the first batch and the glycerine had some "stuff of which I'm not sure of" on top. It kind of looks like snot that is suspended above the glycerine. The reaction was not as complete therefore it made more glycerine and not as much Bio. I will heat from now on.
