First bean harvest!

Looking good!! I am celebrating my first true leaves- so I've got awhile to wait..

You beat me out. My vines have pretty well covered the trellis but the first beans are still tiny on mine.

I picked my first batch of beans this evening, I was expecting just enough for supper but after I was done I harvested 4lbs and 2 oz, canning time is here!!
:D
When did you plant them? I'm still trying to figure out gardening in the southeast... you're north of me, so I must be LATE on the beans, mine are just starting to flower!

I planted them April 19, only reason I remembered is because I'm starting to keep a journal.. :)

Did you plant pole beans? I tried them last year but didn't like the tough string, maybe it was just the type I got...

They look delicious Trunkman.....so far, I've planted beans 3 times because we can't keep that pesky cottontail rabbit out of the garden! He keeps finding a hole in the fence somewhere...thinking the shotgun is the answer :tools
Seems any of the vermin' my cat don't get, get an incurable lead poisoning ; ) Can't figure out what causes that.

I brought in a big ol' bowl of yellow wax and green beans today ... mmmm! having them for dinner tomorrow, and can't WAIT! Deeee-lish!! I didn't plant enough to have to can any -- I think we'll be able to eat them as they're harvested. I may freeze a big or two if things get too carried away, but I think it's unlikely.

None of the purple beans have "beaned" yet ... just flowers. And now I'm wonder if it's just too flippin' HOT for them to set beans. 100 daytime, hits the lower-mid 70s at night.

I know what you mean. That string is tedious to pull out but pole beans also come in several varieties of stringless. Mine are the Italian stringless. A little flatter than some others but very good tasting.

This is the result of 4 lbs of green and wax beans, first batch of the year and more to come, only thing is I think pint jars are pretty small, can't fit a whole lot of beans in a jar and quart size is too big for the two of us, oh well we'll still enjoy em. :D

This is one of my green bean gardens, they're doing great many more beans to come!

I absolutely cannot stand the strings in many of the other types of green beans I have eaten.

May I suggest Fortex Pole beans from Johnny's Selected Seeds in Maine? You can see them online at Johnnyseeds.com. I've been growing those for a few years now and they are absolutely stringless and delicious! Oh by the way, they can be over eleven inches long!

As a matter of fact I have a blog about my garden and the last post was entirely on the Fortex Green Beans and the planting method I used for them to increase the harvest. Please click on the link below if you would like to see it.

I had some surgery so I got a late start and planted on April 30th. So far this year, I have planted a total of 1,440 Fortex green bean seeds in my back yard garden. I still expect to plant a few more rows. Pressure canner here we come!

Last year I canned 159 jars of produce from our garden.
