I have wondered about that stuff, Hoodat.

So, will I still have that feeling of nostalgia for Mom's watercress sandwiches with freshly-made butter and bread?

She did that with sliced radishes, too. The only way I'd eat radishes for years :p.

We lived in Central Cal. where we only had rain in Winter- early spring, and the last few years only 6.5" -- 8" of rain per year. .Now here in SW Wash. it was predicted yesterday to have heavy rains with wind up to 50 mph. overnight in Portland, Ore- Vancouver, Wa. Metro area ... according to weather underground ( just 10 mi. N of Vancouver, Wa. ) ... we had 0.26 " of rain in the last 24 hrs. and currently we have wind at 0 - 4.3 mph. . month to date rainfall - 3.76", year to date - 42.08" . water year since Oct 1- 15.35". ( normal year to date is 13.31") . This amount of rain, much cooler temperatures, as well as gardening practices is all new to us. But I love it here !

You'd need to be on the other side of the Washington Cascades, Bob', to have weather similar to central California.

Now that I say that, I'm thinking California is so varied that one could probably find some place from the polar regions to the equator to compare to one part of California or another.

Here: 35mph+ sustained winds with gusts to 53mph so far today. 36 = Slush City!

No thanks , digit S ! We moved to SW Washington to get away from the HEAT ( try 115-117* and cooling down to 99* at night for 3 weeks in Aug.). due of myself comming down with diabetes, and heat absolutely destoys me now. :duc At 5 AM this morning , it was at 32* ( I whent outside to get the paper in my light shirt and sweat pants. Absolutely beatifull !) and started to SNOW huge snowflakes... in 30 minutes there was about 1/4" of that white fluffy stuff on the cars, a little on trees and plants, but when it hit concrete or road it melted on contact. It stopped snowing after 40 min. All snow had melted in the next 30 min. Snow is predicted to fall again this evening and again on Thurday. The morning's news from Portland, Ore. had a streaming news alert for snow storm and the weatherette had the obligatory scene of brushing snow off her car. Portland snow trucks are out in full force. School bus delay of 2 hrs.. We are at 300' elevation. What WHIMPS !!! :idunno

I was wondering about the elevation in your neck of the woods . . . Looking at this old map of California, yesterday. The Spanish king had to finally declare officially, that California was NOT an island sometime during the mid-1700's. Anyway, if that fault is in the right place -- the Olympic Mountains would be another Washington State island, don't you think?

We had schools that closed yesterday. North, a few of the schools along the border didn't open. South, some schools lost electricity and closed early.

I thought that was what the big windows are for . :) . Well, it wasn't terribly cold . . . The 12 o'clock news said the elementary kids were not allowed to go home unless they were signed-out by a parent. But, I believe the buses even took off early with the bigger kids.

I've been told that California is the only state to have all of the zones somewhere in its borders.
